Most packing tapes have two basic characteristics. It has a sticky side and a non-sticky side. The tape is usually placed in a reel, and the reel contains about tens of yards according to the size of the reel.
Most of the packaging tape rolls are pressure sensitive tape-a layer of paper, cloth, plastic film or metal foil backing the adhesive. The non-sticky side usually has some coating to make the tape easier to peel off!
When you want to stick to something, by applying pressure to the tape, you can help the packing tape to form a chemical bond between the adhesive and the adhesive. These adhesives are only temporary, but some adhesives are much stronger than others, depending on the strength of the adhesive and the porosity of the surface of the adhesive tape attached to the article.
Now let’s take a look at some of the differences between the commonly available types of packing tape:
Transparent office tape
This scotch tape is an "almost transparent" tape used in offices and schools. It is used for ordinary adhesives, but may be difficult to remove and usually leaves a residue. It's good for small pasting jobs (such as packing tape envelopes), but you can't rely on successfully packing tape the package because the scotch tape is easy to tear.
Archive Tape
This low-acid tape is used to protect documents that can last for decades. However, it is totally unsuitable for airtight packaging. Gaffer/Gaff tape
Heavy-duty fabric or plastic backing tape used in the entertainment industry (this is the source of the word "gaff" in "gaffertape"). It is used to glue and seal cables and equipment, so it will not become a trip hazard. It is easy to peel off, leaving no residue. When all other options are not available, this type of tape is only suitable for airtight packaging.
duct tape
This is a plastic or fabric backing tape with a strong adhesive. It is a general-purpose adhesive tape suitable for various heavy-duty applications, but it is not a good choice for packaging.
Packing tape
Box packing tape is a strong tape with polypropylene or polyester backing, and is the first choice for most packaging needs. It usually comes in two or three inches wide varieties. It can be colored or opaque, and strong enough to safely seal most items in the box, but removing the tape usually results in damage to the box. If used to seal the lid, it is usually easiest to cut the tape with a sharp knife.
Tape
is created to cover areas that need to be protected during the painting process, but can also be used for other purposes. Remove most surfaces cleanly. Can also be used for packaging.
electrical tape
Flexible tape is usually made of vinyl or other non-conductive materials. There are a variety of colors to help determine the purpose of the wire used for repair or fixing. Can only be used for electrical work.
Surgical tape
This option is used as a temporary bandage during surgery. As you might expect, it is totally unsuitable for packaging.
Double-sided tape
This tape has adhesive on both sides; a thin layer protects one side. Once the first side gets stuck, the layer will peel off.
Hot Melt Tape
This is a very strong tape with extra adhesive quality; it can withstand extreme temperatures at both ends of the spectrum. This tape is very suitable for heavy and long-term packaging.
Bundled or long ribbon
This option is a special type of tape, usually glass fiber filaments are embedded on the side of the adhesive to make it very strong. It is good as a packaging material because it is very durable against water and chemicals.
